from Active and Passive Colour Stereo Vision Alois Knoll, Ralf Schr oder, and Andr e Wolfram University of Bielefeld, Faculty of Technology, Department of Computer Science, Postfach 10 01 31, D-33501 Bielefeld, Germany Abstract The problem of correspondence search in a stereo system may be alleviated if an active light source projects colour codes onto the scene. To reduce the amount of ambiguous or false matches, additional information drawn from feature-based passive stereo techniques can be used. In this paper we discuss the application of fuzzy data fusion techniques to a dual-mode stereo system. Information from passive stereo is used whenever the active procedure cannot nd an unambiguous match. The algorithm presented in the paper uses a fuzzy rule-based approach to integrate crisp as well as fuzzy input data. It is shown that the combination of data obtained in both modes of operation may lead to a signi cant increase in the number of matches meeting a certain credibility criterion. We present some of our experimental results based on real stereo image data and conclude the paper with a discussion of perspectives for possible future research.

Colour Contribution for Stereo Image Matching

We examine the contribution of colour for the computation of depth maps from a stereo pair of colour aerial images. As a matter of fact we propose an original method based on fusion theory to compute dense and reliable depth maps. The fusion is directly applied on correlation curves obtained for each colour channel. In order to evaluate the quality of the elevation map, we compare our results t...

Novel Visual Sensor System Fusing An Active Trinocular Vision and A Stereo Vision for 3D Range Data Acquisition

One of major research issues associated with 3D range acquisition is the creation of sensor systems with various functionalities and small size. A variety of machine vision techniques have been developed for the determination of 3D scene geometric information from 2D images. As one of active sensors, structured lighting method has been widely used because of its robustness on the illumination n...

DENSER Cities: A System for Dense Efficient Reconstructions of Cities

This paper is about the efficient generation of dense, colored models of city-scale environments from range data and in particular, stereo cameras. Better maps make for better understanding; better understanding leads to better robots, but this comes at a cost. The computational and memory requirements of large dense models can be prohibitive. We provide the theory and the system needed to crea...

An Active Stereometric Triangulation Technique Using a Continuous Colour Pattern

We present a novel method for obtaining dense range maps, which is based on the combination of two (or more) colour cameras and the projection of a continuous colour pattern. The technique offers several advantages for use in robotics including the potential for very high speed of operation and for higher accuracy than achievable with other active triangulation techniques that employ discrete c...

Active Stereo-matching for One-shot Dense Reconstruction

Stereo-vision in computer vision represents an important field for 3D reconstruction. Real time dense reconstruction, however, is only achieved for high textured surfaces in passive stereo-matching. In this work an active stereo-matching approach is proposed. A projected pattern is used to artificially increase the texture of the measuring object, thus enabling dense reconstruction for one-shot...
